About Me Page
My name is Joan Deddo. I would like to share a story about me and why I love helping people create lovely, comfortable home interiors.
I HAVE BEEN WORKING IN THE FASCINATING AND EVER CHANGING FIELD OF INTERIOR DESIGN FOR OVER 28 YEARS. My passion grew out of an acute awareness of aesthetics as a yound girl. There were ten children in my family; we were all crammed into an unfinished two-story home in the country in Palatine, Illinois. I felt embarrassed about my large family’s living conditions.
My bedroom was upstairs where there was no insulation or central heat. It was a sweat box in summer and in winter I could see the frost on the tips of nails protruding through the boards between the studs. I piled my bed high with blankets. Each word between my sisters and I generated a cloud of steam. I never invited my school friends over. I felt embarrassed about the uncomfortable temperatures inside and the overall appearance of my room and the house. I was greatly affected by it. From this beginning , I have a drive to create visual beauty and comfortable interiors for myself and others.
NO ONE SHOULD FEEL EMBARRASSED ABOUT THE APPEARANCE OF THEIR HOME. That is why I strive to bring you the information to make your space something you are proud of and can enjoy. Today I own several businesses in the interior design industry; “Everything For Windows”, Inc.”, “Joan Deddo Interiors”, and “DazzlingInteriorDesign.com”. I made the transformation from a little girl with a dream to a grown woman with success in a market which is also my passion.
AT AGE 35 I BEGAN STUDIES with my major in interior design in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois at William Rainey Harper College and then Northern Illinois University. I am one of many women who put my family before myself, going back to college only after getting married and raising four children to school age. While they were gone for the day at school, I could focus on my design school studies.
FOR THREE AND ONE-HALF YEARS I STUDIED and afterwords worked part time at Calico Corners in Highland Park, Illinois where we sold home decorating fabrics and some furniture. I helped clients select and co-ordinate their “look” and figured yardages needed. In 1981, after a vacation to California, my husband and I fell in love with the state’s weather and beautiful mountain scenery and moved to Escondido, California in San Diego County.
I worked for JC Penney in the decorating division in Escondido and Madonna Draperies in Escondido where I visited clients in their homes and recommended and sold window treatments, figured yardages, and gave other decorating advice. After four years, I decided to start my own decorating business. I work primarily in North San Diego County, Orange County, and Riverside County here in southern California.
AFTER OVER 28 YEARS IN THE INTERIOR DESIGN INDUSTRY, I KNOW THE TRICKS AND STRATEGIES TO HELP TRANSFORM INTERIORS ON ANY BUDGET. My passion for beautiful interiors has never waned and to this day I love my work. I feel very fortunate to have found a career path where I can work hard at what I enjoy the most and my hard work has been recognized.
I HAVE BEEN AWARDED AND PUBLISHED. For one, I created the interiors for the 6400 square foot “Street of Dreams” home in Poway, California in October of the year 2000. The pictures are still available to see on the internet and I have some of them on my website. Go to: “Street of Dreams”, then archives, then San Diego. I am the “Villa Madres” house # 4 by Crossware Development, Inc. and Joan Deddo Interiors.
THE BUILDER AND I RECEIVED “BEST OF SHOW” out of 6 luxury homes constructed for the event. It was a blast! Greatest of all, our home sold within 2 weeks after opening the doors to the public while most of the others languished on the market for months.
I HAVE LOVED WORKING WITH OVER 2000 CLIENTS IN MY BUSINESSES THESE LAST 25 YEARS. I have many stories to tell and many fond memories. I am hoping to help more people online than I could personally offline by offering educational material, how to’s, videos, pictures, and more. Thank you for visiting my site. I truly appreciate your interest and am excited to share my passion with you. Joan Deddo Now go back to “DazzlingInteriorDesign.com” for more.
